An Axholme Alphabet – Robert Fish
Local historian Robert Fish will be presenting an A to Z alphabetical gazetteer of the people, places, and events that formed Axholme’s history.
Culled from his published histories of the Isle of Axholme, plus some newly discovered material, Bob’s talk will feature interesting stories of the people, places and events that built the foundations of the modern Isle of Axholme: from farmers and engineers, to boatmen and schoolteachers, those who bent their trades to conquer flood and those who drew their living from its restless waters. Nestled between rivers and rich farmland, the Isle of Axholme has always been a place apart — shaped not just by water and land, but by the hands and hearts of its people. An Axholme Alphabet will be a tribute to the daily lives, work, traditions, structures and places that have given meaning and character to this remarkable place.
The Epworth Men’s Society is held at several venues. When meetings are held at either the Imperial Hall, Chapel Street, or the Thurlow Pavilion, Epworth, members can bring their own refreshments and snacks.
